CHENNAI: It's going to be a wet year-end for Chennai as Cyclone Thane is likely to hit the city on Friday morning. The regional meteorological department said the "severe cyclonic storm" was 700km east-southeast of Chennai on Tuesday evening and might cross the coast near Chennai if it retains its direction and strength.
From Wednesday night, the city is likely to get rain, which may get heavier on Thursday and Friday.
Regional meteorological department deputy director Y E A Raj said the storm was likely to enter the Chennai region between Cuddalore and Nellore. "The cyclone will hit the city on Friday morning, with heavy rain and severe storms. We expect wind speeds of up to 100kmph. We have sent out alerts to the agencies concerned," he said.
