BCS bowl games are great, aren't they? Love the system or hate it, we get so much to discuss and debate throughout the season -- and even more once the season is over and the bowl lineups are announced.
This year's championship matchup was announced Sunday -- LSU vs. Alabama -- but the argument continues to rage. No one disputes undefeated LSU's right to play for the BCS title. But one-loss Alabama barely edged one-loss Oklahoma State for the No. 2 spot in the rankings.
It's the title game everyone was expecting going into the weekend, but Oklahoma State closed the gap with idle Alabama by means of a 34-point victory over No. 10 Oklahoma. Still, when the final scores were tallied, the Crimson Tide edged the Cowboys by the smallest of margins, .9419 to .9333.
Which leaves us with the first-ever rematch in the BCS title game (LSU won, 9-6, in overtime the first time around) -- a matchup that features an Alabama team that not only did not win its conference, but finished second (to LSU) in its division.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys -- the Big 12 champions whose only loss was in double-overtime to unranked Iowa State -- will not get a shot at LSU on the field this season.
