2005 was the year when Triumph had last updated its Speed Triple. They gave it 1050cc engine. After fives year Triumph updated the Speed Triple completely and transformed their bestselling bike into a master piece. More than 65,000 models are sold of the Speed since 1994 and now Triumph looks India as its potential market. Triumph Speed Triple in Indiawill be 2011 latest model. 2011 updates include all new chassis, swingarm and frame, and surly this ride is going to be indiandrives favourite naked model and truly a modern one. The twin circular headlamps are now in angular shape; looks a little controversial. They couldn’t change these parts with modern plastic; it would be like downgrading the M1 MotoGP supersports bike to 100kmph max speed limit. Thankfully the new Speed Triple is the most modern yet it retains its iconic naked look making it one of the most desirable streetler out there.
Back in 1994 Triumph changed the game of how manufacturers were playing the game of the naked. The 2011 Triumph Speed Triple is lighter, it has a torques engine, gives more front end feel, the geometry is changed and almost every thing is revised to become the most lightest Triple available till date. Let’s find out how much difference that is really going to make when the Speed Triple comes to India.
Engine
The engine of the Speed Triple is a triple cylindered 1050cc. The torque flow of this engine is nearly unrestricted and yet it makes a run like a sport bike. With 2011 updates comes the increased power generation of 8-10bhp and spread of torque from 6000rpm to 9000rom, making a big difference. The engine is truly a special one. Overtaking wasn’t as easy as this before, it’s faster and does it with greater safety of margin. And you think that’s cool, the Triumph Speed Triple can wheelie for ever. ECU, airbox and exhausts are revised to this powers step and the bike now feels more mannered at low rpm. After every thing the Speed does a top speed of nearly 5kmph in addition to the previous model.
Ride and Handling
The Triumph Speed Triple in India will receive all the 2011 updates and along with it, will come the new frame. The new frame makes the engine of the speed a little forward and this makes the Speed Triple as flickable as the 675 Triple. The battery box is now shifted behind the head stock this makes the ride move closer to steering and also changed the overall geometry of the bike. The result is a bike that can run in any situation. Speed Triple is now a package that fun on the road, mannered in the town and turns passionate on the track. The seat height is lowered and narrower space making the ride enjoyable to short heighted riders. The2011 Triumph Speed Triple is also with reduced turning radius, making life easier.
Equipment
New on the dash is a service indicator, shift light that’s programmable and a tyre pressure system with sensors fitted to the wheels. The ignition key has an immobiliser which is commonly found on Japanese makes. Brembo brakes are carried from the last year’s model and works as beautifully as it used to before. Triumph also offers ABS optional.
Quality and Equipment
It won’t take long for you to recognize how well the frame, chassis and swing arm and other components are finished. This time Triumph has given special attention to every single detailing as the earlier model showed up with water entering the switch gear. The engine of the Triumph Speed is tweaked but Triumph says that the engine as good as it was earlier.
Value
Triumph Speed Triple price in India may settle at Rs 12 lakh*. It’s a value ride for every single rupee paid; it’s a bike with three years of development and received upgraded components without increasing the cost of the bike much. The Triumph Speed Triple in India should be a better option than the upcoming Kawasaki Z1000 and the Honda CB1000R.
