The plot of ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ is simple as it involves a hackneyed concept of love story between two characters Kamal (‘Jayam’ Ravi) and Kayalvizhi (Hansika) set in the back drops of Paris. The film is produced by AGS Entertainments and is directed by Prabhu Deva (Pokkiri, Villu).
Kamal has an unique characterization as he loves earnestly working on business for 11 months while he enjoys for a month holidaying in Paris. He doesn’t believe in love as he isn’t willing to commit himself. At the other end in Paris, there is Kayalvizhi, who is a cello player and daughter of a detective (Suman). She falls in love at first sight with Kamal, but again there are some difference of opinions that gives space for egoistic clash.
‘Jayam’ Ravi as shown in film, a chocolate boy character guy, Ravi has done justice to his character though his looks in the film shows him like a action hero and too in few action scenes he has given the best.
Hansika as a France brought-up Indian cultured girl, she delivers unique quite expressions with her flavor of acting and adds more color to the film.
Suman: a Private Detective in Paris, Father of Kayalvizhi (Hansika).with the delivery of perfect emotions at the right time he makes an impact on the screen. Especially the conversations with Kamal (Ravi) in hotel room…
Raju Sundaram: a clear choice as a friend of Kamal (Ravi) and takes care of humor which has helped to recover the sluggishness in some part the screen play. Though at times it seems to be over-acting as a whole makes us feel light with his humor sensed performance.
Nirav Shah’s wide angle shots are just mind-blowing. His picurisation of songs in the back drops of beautiful locations in and around Paris is sure to be a visual treat for viewer.
Harris Jayaraj’s music is the ‘USP’ of the film. His Background score just gives us the feel of watching a movie with International Standards particularly the songs like ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ and ’Dimu Dimu’ with peppy romance essence in it, ‘Nangai’ number attracts everyone’s attention.
Prabhu Deva has tried a new style in film making for Tamil audience and has executed it to his extent.
Verdict: A Bold Attempt yet Risk is Yours!
Rating: 4/10 – Average
