New Delhi North India, including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir, felt moderate tremors on Monday afternoon after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit the Hindukush region of Afghanistan. No loss of property or life had been reported, an official said. “An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude (on the Richter scale) jolted northern parts of the country at around 3.19 pm Monday,” an official of the India Meteorological Department said. Dr V Dekal said on Monday that he submitted his resignation on March 3, two weeks before he conducted the post-mortem, and the step had nothing to do with the case. Denying that he was under pressure, he said he wanted to quit the service to contest the April 13 TN assembly polls.

Srinagar, Mar 21 (PTI) An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 today hit Kashmir valley, prompting people to rush out of buildings fearing repeat of the 2005 tremor which devastated several border areas of the valley. The tremor with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan occurred around 3.20 PM and lasted for three seconds, MeT officials said. The jolt was felt in almost all parts of the valley including Srinagar. There was no report of any damage due to the tremor, officials said.
