Apple’s latest version of the 17-inch MacBook Pro packs more power while simultaneously extending battery life, making a winning, if expensive, desktop replacement.

Apple’s legendary unibody metal design remains intact on the 2011 version of the 17-inch MacBook Pro, but the hardware inside has changed. The largest notebook in Apple’s MacBook Pro line now sports a 2.2GHz second-generation Intel Core i7 processor and AMD’s brawny Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 RAM. The net result: It’s fast, both around the desktop and in games, which it handles with surprising authority. Meanwhile, a high-capacity lithium polymer battery now delivers up to seven hours of battery life, making it one of the longest-running desktop replacements available, and Intel’s new Thunderbolt port allows for ultra-fast connections with accessories. wonder : Spring brings splash color to all branded laptops!!!!!!!!!

Laptop manufacturers now elbow for eyes with bright colors and unique designs as they compete with the growing tablet market, and each other.

Manufacturers are preparing to deviate from the standard black and grey color schemes and will soon produce configurations in a variety of colors. As tablets are increasingly seen as the hippest new device on the block, PC manufacturers are being forced to compete for coolness, if only aesthetically.

For low-priced mini netbooks, color is the main appeal. Since the vast majority now feature the same 10.1-inch display, Atom processor, and 250GB hard drive, color has become the easiest way to differentiate between models. Intel and Lenovo release the Classmate+ PC for the kids

Thinking that netbook up there looks exactly like Intel's latest Classmate PC with a Lenovo sticker smacked on? Well, you'd be entirely correct. Lenovo and Intel have teamed up to bring out the Classmate+, which is indeed just a rebadged Classmate PC (or Intel Learning Series reference design). The 10.1-inch netbook doesn't have Intel's fresh Atom N570 processor, but it has all the other netbook essentials, including an Atom N455 CPU, Windows 7, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, and three- and six-cell battery options. However, like most of the other Classmate PCs, the Classmate+ won't be available directly to consumers -- they will be sold in bulk to educational institutions or agencies, primarily in the developing world. And the Classmate+ is off to a great start -- 158,000 are already set to be deployed this spring in Buenos Aires. See kids, netbooks are far from dead!
