New Intel Atom processor review !!!!!!!!!!

Ever notice that the chips driving tablets are made by the likes of Apple, Samsung, Nvidia, and Qualcomm? Intel wants to change that.

As tablets are moving into a central role in technology users’ everyday personal and professional lives, it’s no surprise that almost every technology company on the planet wants to have a strong presence in the tablet market. However, chipmaking giant Intel has largely been left out of the revolution: while its processors power the vast majority of notebook, netbook, desktop, and server systems on the market, tablets are dominated by ARM-based processors from the likes of Samsung, Qualcomm, Nvidia, and (of course) Apple. Intel is looking to change that, however, with its new Atom Z670 “Oak Trail” processors, which can power 1080p viedeo playback and offer longer life than previous Atom offerings—and Intel says it offers more operating system flexibility than anything else on the market.

“The new Intel Atom ‘Oak Trail’ platform, with ‘Cedar Trail’ to follow, are examples of our continued commitment to bring amazing personal and mobile experiences to netbook and tablet devices, delivering architectural enhancements for longer battery life and greater performance,” said Intel’s netbook and tablet VP and general manager Doug Davis, in a statement. “We are accelerating the Intel Atom product line to now move faster than Moore’s law, bringing new products to market on three process technologies in the next 3 years.”

Intel says the Atom Z670 can handle 1080p video output over HDMI, along with Adobe Flash so users can tap into rich online content and gaming, all without sacrificing battery life compared to earlier offerings. The Atom 670 features integrated graphics and a die size 60 percent smaller than its predecessors, reducing power and heat dissipation requirements. Intel also touts the processors as offering manufacturers more flexibility than any other tablet processor, with support for Android, MeeGo, and even Windows operating systems, and the systems sport an Enhanced Deep Sleep mode for improved power savings during inactivity.

Intel taking over Kno tablet hardware design!!!!!!!!!

Reports have Intel and Conde Nast's owner sinking $30 million into Kno...and Intel taking over the dual-screen student tablet's hardware design.

Last month, rumors were swirling that tablet start up Kno was considering selling off its hardware business—which hasn’t even launched yet, despite repeated delays. Now, new reports have chipmaking giant Intel and Conde Nast owner Advance Publications sinking some $30 million into Kno…and that Intel will be taking over the hardware design of the dual-screen tablets with an eye towards licensing manufacturing to OEMs.

According toBusinessweek, Intel’s venture capital arm is interested in the technology as a way to expand its presense in the education market. According toAll Things Digital, Intel will take over the hardware design of the tablets then, rather than manufacture the devices itself, license the designs to OEM manufacturers. Conde Nast owner Advance Capital is also apparently also be a significant participant in the investment.

Canon brings Thunderbolt technology to cameras!!!!!!!!!

Canon will be the next major company to introduce Thunderbolt technology.

Intel debuted its Thunderbolt technology last month, and now the 10-gigabit-per-second transfer system is making its way to more and more consumer devices. Canon recently announced it will begin integrating support for the blazingly fast transfer tech in its products.

Apple notoriously jumped on board first with Thunderbolt I/O, putting the new interface in its new MacBook Pro models. According to Apple, the addition is 12 times faster than FireWire and 20 times faster than USB 2.0. Canon will be second in line to partner with Intel and offer its users a shot at remarkably fast connection speeds. “We are excited about Thunderbolt technology and feel it will bring new levels of performance and simplicity to the video creation market,” Canon exec Hiroo Edakubo said in a statement. It hasn’t been made explicitly clear how Canon will implement Thunderbolt’s services.

Intel and Lenovo release the Classmate+ PC for the kids

Thinking that netbook up there looks exactly like Intel's latest Classmate PC with a Lenovo sticker smacked on? Well, you'd be entirely correct. Lenovo and Intel have teamed up to bring out the Classmate+, which is indeed just a rebadged Classmate PC (or Intel Learning Series reference design). The 10.1-inch netbook doesn't have Intel's fresh Atom N570 processor, but it has all the other netbook essentials, including an Atom N455 CPU, Windows 7, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, and three- and six-cell battery options. However, like most of the other Classmate PCs, the Classmate+ won't be available directly to consumers -- they will be sold in bulk to educational institutions or agencies, primarily in the developing world. And the Classmate+ is off to a great start -- 158,000 are already set to be deployed this spring in Buenos Aires. See kids, netbooks are far from dead!
