The release of Research In Motion's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet may have been pushed back one month due to the lack of touch screens brought on by an Apple's hunger for iPad 2 components.

Anyone thinking about taking on Apple in the tablet wars, take heed: The release of Research in Motion’sBlackBerry PlayBook tablet was delayed for one month, likely because of high demand for the iPad 2.

According to DigiTimes, “PlayBook shipments were postponed for about a month from the original schedule due to a delay in software testing as well as shortage of touch panels because Apple already booked up most of the available capacity.”

4G BlackBerry PlayBook coming to Sprint this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first officially publicized release date for the PlayBook is here, and Sprint will be adding the 4G tablet to its lineup this summer.

RIM keeps touting all the impressive bells and whistles of the PlayBook, but we’ve yet to hear a release date — until today. The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is now live on Sprint’s website, and it will launch this summer. Last we heard, the tablet would cost $499.99 and be here by late April. There’s now some speculation the PlayBook will try to steal some of the iPhone 5’s thunder with a launch in June, giving you a few reasons to make your calendars. Of course, this could just be when the PlayBook debuts with Sprint, and (fingers crossed) its’ initial launch could be a mere month away. But if you’re a Sprint customer and anxiously awaiting the PlayBook’s premiere, the carrier’s site has an option for you to sign up and receive breaking news on the tablet.

With a launch looming in the foreseeable future, we still have a slew of PlayBook questions that require answers. Will it feature access to Android apps? Will we get a preview peek at its iTunes rival? Have the battery issue rumors finally been put to rest?

Research In Motion confirms pricing and an April 19 release date for its upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet as pre-orders open at Best Buy.

BlackBerry developer Research In Motion has arguably been the hardest-hit following the arrival of the iPhone and the growth in the global smartphone market that followed. Still, if you are going to bet on any company to successfully compete with Apple in this post-iPad world, RIM is your best choice. The tech firm is still a dominating presence in the business world, and that’s the angle it is taking with its soon-to-arrive PlayBook tablet, which is now officially priced, dated and open for pre-orders.

Best Buy posted three pre-order product pages for the 7-inch tablet last night, with the 16GB model costing $499.99, the 32GB modelcosting $599.99 and the top-level 64GB model costing $699.99. Pre-orders are now open, and a RIM press release confirms that the product will arrive in select stores — namely, Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile and Future Shop — on April 19.

Best Buy and Future Shop are the first retailers to get the tablet, but RIM further confirms that you’ll eventually be able to find it pretty much anywhere that deals in tech goods, including Staples, Office Depot and Radio Shack. The PlayBook will also be available from three of the top four wireless providers in the country, AT&T, Sprint andVerizon. T-Mobile is notably absent from the list, though that won’t exactly matter in another 12 months.
