The Mumbai Indians will be a worried lot after their ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar was dealt a nasty blow on the hand by a rising Doug Bollinger delivery in the opening game of IPL 2012 against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Wednesday.
Tendulkar who was on 16 at the time tried to negotiate a short of a length delivery fromBollinger that rose awkwardly and more than he expected it to, resulting in it crashing into his bottom hand. It was the last ball of the 9th over and was followed immediately by the strategic time out during which Tendulkar was forced to retire hurt. He was shown grimacing in pain as walked off with his bleeding hand.
Tendulkar who recently went to London to consult a specialist regarding his recurring toe problem could have done without another injury issue. Mumbai will hope the maestro recoversin time for their next match against Pune on their home turf on April 6. If not it will be a huge blow for his fans, but knowing the fighter that Tenudlkar is it will not be surprising if he turns up raring to go as always.
