The United States and France have started with an air assault on Libya. Is this the beginning of WW3?

The U.S. Navy fires the first U.S. Tomahawk cruise missiles against Libyan leader’s Muammar al-Qaddafi’s air defenses Saturday, a military source tells Fox News.

The U.S. military strikes clear the way for European and other planes to enforce a no-fly zone designed to ground Qaddafi’s air force and cripple his ability to inflict further violence on rebels, U.S. officials said.

Hours after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton attended an international conference in Paris that endorsed military action against Qaddafi, the U.S. was poised to kick off its attacks on Libyan air defense missile and radar sites along the Mediterranean coast to protect no-fly zone pilots from the threat of getting shot down.

Libya: ministers contradict Chief of the Defence Staff over legality of targeted strike on Col Gaddafi

Cabinet ministers have contradicted senior military commanders by suggesting that coalition forces in action over Libya can legitimately target Colonel Muammar GaddaThe Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen Sir David Richards, flatly insisted that seeking to hit the Libyan dictator was not allowed under the terms of United Nations Security Council resolution 1973.

But after Defence Secretary Liam Fox suggested over the weekend that Col Gaddafi could be a "legitimate target", No 10 sources insisted it was legal to target anyone killing Libyan civilians.

The controversy blew up as Col Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli was hit in a second night of coalition air strikes aimed at suppressing the regime's air defences and command and control structure.

US begins assault against Libyan air defenses !!!!!!!!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) – The US military has launched a missile attack against Libya's air defenses.
A senior US military official says the strike was aimed at sites along the Libyan coast. The missiles were launched from US Navy vessels in the Mediterranean.
Full details were not immediately available.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive military operations.
