We all know what E Series stands for. Business phones. Nokia Business phones.
We missed those days, or let me say, I missed those days. Up until this day, the phone I held for the longest period was the Nokia E51 that lasted in my hands for over 18 months, followed by the E71 that lasted almost a year. And trust me, holding a phone for a whole year is something huge for me. It means a lot. It says a lot.
To cut the story short, Nokia is preparing itself to release on the Lebanese market the E7, their latest E-Series business oriented device.
But the context is a bit… tricky. Sensitive tricky, to say the least. The main question we’re asking ourselves here at GIGAlb is: “will the E7 be the last of its kind? The last Symbian powered business device?”… well, most probably, yes.
On a more joyful note, the E7 comes as a definite upgrade for E71 and E72 users. You’ll see why in a bit.
Now, having said this, Nokia, through the very words of its CEO during MWC11, reconfirmed their commitment to Symbian in the short-term.
But will this be enough? Hardcore Nokia users actually love their devices and platform because, amongst other obvious hardware-related matters, they receive constant software support and updates. Letting Symbian go with time means less support, less bug fixes, less development… and hence less reliable and interesting devices over time.
But we do believe that at least those latest Symbian^3 devices which are the N8, C7 and E7 will continue to be built upon. N8 has had a huge success over the last few months worldwide. The E7 will definitely benefit from that momentum.
Now, let’s head to the serious stuff…
